I always wonder why some bands that seem to have come from nowhere get
signed while other who has a lot of potential remain in the back burner.
I asked because band like Trephination ought to get signed soon.
Trephination was formed around 1996 in Philadelpia, they're played oldschool death metal to create some interesting of extreme music! before they release this CD, their previous effort has been unleashed in "Gore Is Your Master Compilation" released worldwide in 1999 by Razorback Records (US). This CD it contain 3 materials, It was released in June 2000 with song title "Cloned Reoccurences", "Threading The Twine" also "Citadel". When you heard all of this material you'll find some Sepultura, Slayer, Obituary even Death vein! and the vocal style really near into Glen Benton Of Deicide, they're currently writing for new material for 6 songs EP driven by impressions of lunacy upon all who bear witness! not too original in musical style but they're tried to showing their ability to played oldschool death metal as well as their first pioneer!!! Philadelphia's Trephination are a death metal band who cite Obituary, Death, Sepultura, and Slayer as influences. With War Come Atrocities is a three song demo they originally released in 2000. The first thing that stands out is the emphatic vocals of M. Machette. Picture a much less annoying but just as nuanced version of Obituary's John Tardy and you're close to his league. Musically, Trephination are rooted in old school death metal with a touch of doom (Incanatation, Cancer, Obituary, etc). The band is in the process of recording a new six song e.p. to be released later this fall. A decent initiation, with some more seasoning and a better production and Trephination will be a band to watch. Now this is the shit!! No one is making old school
Death metal like this any more, at least that's what I thought until I
got a hold of Trephination's 3 song EP. Trephination doesn't spend the
whole disc trying to play faster than everyone else, but they can bring
the speed when it's needed. This is more about thick ghoulish grooves,
that build and build until they overflow in thundering unholy crescendos.
The main influence here is Obituary, from the musical arrangements, to
the John Tardy inspired vocals delivered by Mike Machette. I can't believe
these guys have been around since '96 and this is my first taste. I mean
these guys should be on Relapse or Necropolis, and playing festivals.
I knew someone had to be keepin' this stuff alive. If you are a Death
metal fan, then YOU NEED THIS. For more info, check 'em out at www.trephination.us
Jose / Alonso TREPHINATION What you can find here is well-elaborated death metal,

Review by John Chedsey 10/00
Trephination-With War Comes Atrocities MCD (band release 2000) 11.22 US death metal at it's finest, is the description that fits Trephination's "With War Comes Atrocities" MCD best. Three songs in the Malevolent Creation vein is what you will find on this album and all are killer songs although "Citadel" is my favourite song because of the great riff. So you know what to expect: pounding death metal, mostly played midtempo with some faster parts. The lyrics are worth mentioning specifically; they read like poems and they describe the feelings of a person being hung and a war criminal and also Operation Citadel (WW II) very well. I really hope to hear much more from this great band. 8.5/10
